As COVID19 struck, a critical local organisation struggled to secure the personal protective equipment it needed to serve meals to others in need
On April 8, 2020, Harrow Food Bank published the following message
“...until we can sort the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment), I am afraid our distribution centres at Holy Trinity Church on a Tuesday and Friday, and St Pauls on a Wednesday are not going ahead. These will remain closed until we have both the PPE and the security staff to help us to operate without incident
In terms of our new ways of working, the Council are helping us to get supplies of:
secure 6 months of sanitiser to cover the warehouse and distribution centres each week
secure masks and gloves for up to 50 volunteers
secure up to 30 traffic cones for Holy Trinity and St Pauls to mark out the distance for the queues
secure security people working in the business sector who would like to volunteer as security guards at our centres – to control and manager the queues, and to protect both volunteers and clients and ensure that our clients practice social distances whilst queuing
The Council are trying very hard to get us the PPE and hopefully they will supply this shortly and in time for our next distribution session scheduled for next week.”
How can such an esteemed and important organisation struggle to find the necessary protection it needs to support those most in need? How can we help?
Reaching Out to Help
In response to Harrow Food Bank's plea, we here at HHH sent the following message:
Subject: PPE Item Donations
Dear Harrow Food Bank,
I hope that this message finds you healthy and well during these challenging times. My name is Luke Esposito and I am a Year 12 student at a school on the Hill. I have been wondering how my peers and I may help to support those in need in our area, especially those without access to food, and came across your website. What is the status of your request regarding the 6 months of sanitiser, security masks and gloves for up to 50 volunteers, and the 30 traffic cones that you requested on your COVID-19 web page? If these items may still be of need, I may be able to help arrange for their delivery.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Luke Esposito
